Head Chair

Joel Shih

Fellow delegates of KMUN,

Welcome to KMUN I! My name is Joel Shih, and I am a sophomore at Pacific American School in Hsinchu, Zhubei. It is my honor to serve as your President for this year’s Middle School General Assembly 1 (MSGA1), alongside our Deputy President, Zoe Cowie. This marks my thirteenth MUN conference, and I couldn’t be more excited to meet all of you.

For me, Model United Nations is more than just a school activity or academic challenge; it's a platform for connecting, growing, and learning from one another. My MUN journey began in eighth grade, when older students encouraged me to try something new. At the time, I had no idea what MUN was about, but I decided to give it a chance, and I’m grateful I did. That one step has led me to where I am today, chairing at KMUN and getting to know many different people from all over Taiwan, as well as other delegates and chairs from other countries. I understand that some delegates may feel nervous or hesitant about speaking during the debate. My advice: give it a try. Every speech, every amendment, and every resolution is a chance to improve. Over time, you’ll gain the confidence to speak and improvise naturally. If you ever need guidance or support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Joshua and me.

Outside of MUN, I enjoy Formula 1, badminton, and watching sitcoms. Above all, I hope to stay approachable and make this experience both productive and enjoyable for everyone. I wish you all the best during the conference.
I look forward to meeting you all in February and witnessing your passion and collaboration throughout the conference!

Best regards,

President of MSGA1

Joel Shih

Co-Chair

Zoe Cowie

Hi! I’m Zoe, and I’m currently an 8th grader at Kaohsiung American School. I’m honored to serve as the Deputy Chair of GA1 at KMUN I!
KMUN will be my eighth conference, and it will be my first time chairing. My MUN journey has come a long way. I remember being too nervous to speak during my first conference, with barely any knowledge of procedure. Through experience, I gradually became more confident and grew to fully understand the procedure. That I have the MSMUN executives at my school to thank for, without their guidance, I wouldn’t have been able to do well at conferences. My goal is to do what those executives have done for me and many other aspiring MUNers; I wish to help delegates grow by encouraging them to engage in debate. Seeing as the topics in GA1 are fairly interesting, I do not doubt that delegates will come up with creative solutions to tackle the issues. If any delegates are having trouble with drafting a resolution, have any concerns, or questions, they can contact me either on my Instagram: @zocowie or via email: zoecow30@kas.tw. If you note that I don’t immediately respond to that email address, you can try contacting me via zozocowie@gmail.com or zoe@cowie.co.
When I’m not debating global issues, you can find me watching F1, participating in theatre, or reading. :)
