Secretary-General

Gavin Lo

Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates, esteemed advisors, and respected guests — welcome to Kaohsiung Model United Nations I. My name is Gavin Lo, and it is my profound honor to serve as your Secretary-General for this inaugural conference.

As we gather here today, we are united by a shared commitment to understanding global challenges and engaging in constructive dialogue. MUN offers each of us a unique opportunity to broaden our perspectives, strengthen our communication skills, and cultivate the diplomatic mindset needed to navigate an increasingly complex world. Whether you are participating in your first conference or returning with previous experience, I encourage you to approach every debate with curiosity, confidence, and respect. The value of this conference lies not only in the resolutions you create, but in the exchange of ideas, the collaboration across committees, and the willingness to listen to viewpoints that may differ from your own.

This year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” reminds us that meaningful progress emerges when individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives come together with a shared purpose. Our diversity is not a barrier to cooperation — it is the foundation on which cooperation is built. In every speech you deliver and every discussion you engage in, I hope you will keep this principle in mind. By embracing the diversity within this conference, we strengthen our ability to work collectively toward solutions that reflect inclusivity, empathy, and global understanding.

As you embark on the sessions ahead, I encourage you to challenge yourselves, support one another, and make full use of the opportunities this conference provides. I have no doubt that each of you will contribute meaningfully to the discussions and leave KMUN I with new insights, skills, and connections.

I wish you all a productive, enriching, and memorable experience at Kaohsiung Model United Nations I. Thank you, and I look forward to the thoughtful diplomacy and leadership you will bring over the coming days.

Deputy Secretary-General

Daniel Chen

Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates, esteemed advisors, and respected guests — welcome to Kaohsiung Model United Nations I! My name is Daniel Chen, a junior at Kaohsiung American School, and it is my utmost honor to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General this year.

If you asked me what I’ve learned from my five years of doing MUN, I’d say this: MUN isn’t about perfection or competition; it’s about learning, sharing perspectives, and finding confidence in expressing your ideas. To all the delegates attending KMUN — whether you’re stepping into your very first conference, returning as an experienced participant, or just here to play chess, Clash Royale, and enjoy the snacks and lunches provided — I encourage you to make the most out of this opportunity. Don’t hesitate to raise your placard and speak at the podium when you have something to stand for.

Collaborate with fellow delegates, exchange ideas, and work together to craft resolutions that truly represent your country’s stance. Every speech you deliver, amendment you propose, and collaboration you take part in contributes to something greater: a collective effort to understand and improve our world through communication and cooperation. And to all the chairs guiding the debate, thank you for your dedication in ensuring that every delegate’s voice is heard and every discussion remains meaningful.

This year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” perfectly represents what MUN stands for. We come from different backgrounds, schools, and experiences, yet here, we unite through discussion and diplomacy. True unity isn’t about being the same; rather, it’s about embracing our differences and using them to create better ideas together. Through respectful dialogue and open-minded debate, we can turn diversity into strength and disagreement into progress.

While I’m expecting to hear plenty of delegates shouting “67” across committee rooms, I hope you’ll also find moments that remind you why MUN is both meaningful and fun. I wish you all an inspiring and memorable experience at KMUN I. May your passion, creativity, and diplomacy shine throughout the conference. See you in February!

Deputy Secretary-General

Jonathan Chen

Hello, and welcome to KMUN I!

I am Jonathan Chen, a current junior at Kaohsiung American School, and it is my utmost honor to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General for KMUN this year.

Having started my MUN journey years ago, I was quickly captivated by the intense debate, strategic negotiations, and diverse perspectives that make Model United Nations such a unique and fulfilling experience. MUN offers valuable lessons: improving public speaking skills, expanding one’s knowledge of global affairs, and inspiring individuals to broaden their worldview.

In every committee room, you learn to speak out and collaborate in order to engage in meaningful discussions while connecting with other delegates. Whether you are a first-time delegate or a highly experienced one, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and fully immerse yourself in the experience. Utilize your time effectively at KMUN I to engage in debate, build meaningful connections, and most importantly, have fun.

I look forward to welcoming all of you to KMUN I and seeing the passion and ideas you bring to the conference.

Deputy Secretary-General

Alexandra Chuang

Welcome to KMUN!

My name is Alexandra Chuang, a current junior at Kaohsiung American School, and it is my utmost honor to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General this year. I started my MUN journey first in sixth grade as a quiet delegate who barely spoke, I was drawn in by the energy of the debates, the unexpected alliances during lobbying, and the wide range of perspectives that each delegate brought into the room. Over time, those experiences have made MUN not just an activity, but a meaningful part of my growth as a student and as a person.

This years theme is “Unity in Diversity”, unity does not mean being the same or agreeing on everything. But instead, it means coming together because of our differences, using our diverse experiences, cultures, and viewpoints to create stronger, more creative, and more inclusive solutions. In your committees, I encourage you to see diversity not as an obstacle, but as a strength that makes the debate richer and every resolution more meaningful.

Whether this is your very first conference or you’ve attended many before, I encourage you to take risks out of your comfort zone at KMUN I. Take the initiative to speak, ask questions, collaborate with other delegates, and challenge yourself to see issues from new angles. Make the most of your time here to engage in debate, form meaningful connections, and, most importantly, enjoy the experience.

I truly look forward to welcoming you to KMUN I and seeing the passion, creativity, and ideas you bring to the conference!

Deputy Secretary-General

Charles Chung

Hello, and welcome to KMUN I!

I’m Charles Chung, a junior at Kaohsiung American School, and I’m thrilled to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General this year.

I’ve been part of the MUN community for 6–7 years, and over that time, I’ve learned just how transformative this experience can be. MUN isn’t just about debate—it’s about thinking on your feet, understanding complex global issues, and learning how to work with people who see the world differently. Every committee session is a chance to challenge yourself, share your ideas, and grow as a thinker and leader.

Whether it’s your first MUN or your tenth, I encourage you to dive in wholeheartedly. Speak up, listen actively, negotiate strategically, and don’t be afraid to try new approaches. Take this opportunity at KMUN I to make connections, explore new perspectives, and enjoy every moment of the conference.

I can’t wait to see the energy, creativity, and passion each of you brings to KMUN I, and see you in February!
